An Important Sidewalk Update:

In last fall's budgeting process, the Board of Trustees agreed to set aside money in the 2025 budget to address the deteriorating sidewalks throughout the Village. As a result, the Village staff began coordinating with a local specialist regarding the best plan of action given our situation. All sidewalks were inventoried and prioritized based on extent of deterioration. That list was then used to determine our scope for the year. The result was a two-phased approach.

Phase 1 will be starting this week with 81 sidewalk panels throughout the Village being addressed using a method called poly jacking/leveling. These panels have all been marked with white dots. Please see the additional information regarding what this method entails below.

Phase 2 will start after school is out for the summer and will involve replacing 27 panels with new concrete. These panels are cracked beyond repair, so replacement is the only option.

We appreciate your patience with our staff and the contractor as they work to complete this very important project.

What is Poly jacking/leveling?

Poly jacking/leveling is a concrete repair method that lifts and levels sunken concrete slabs using polyurethane foam injection. It's a cost-effective and efficient alternative to mud jacking or concrete replacement, especially for areas like driveways, patios, and sidewalks.

How it works:

 - Drilling: Small, dime-sized holes are drilled into the concrete slab.

 - Injection: A two-part polyurethane foam is injected under the slab through these holes.

 - Expansion: The foam expands and hardens, filling any voids or gaps underneath the slab.

 - Lifting and Leveling: The expanding foam lifts the concrete slab back to its original level.

 - Stabilization: The hardened foam creates a stable base, preventing further sinking or settling.

Benefits of poly jacking/leveling:

 - Cost-effective: It can be a more affordable option than replacing the entire slab.

 - Less disruptive: Poly jacking requires minimal disruption to the surrounding area, with the concrete ready for use soon after the procedure.

 - Long-lasting: The polyurethane foam is durable and can last for decades.

 - Effective for various concrete types: It can be used on driveways, patios, walkways, and even garage and basement floors.

 - Addresses underlying issues: Poly jacking not only lifts the concrete but also compacts the soil underneath, preventing future settling.
